Launch of A History of Modern India

Ishita Banerjee-Dube’s A History of Modern India was launched by Professor Romila Thapar at the India International Centre, New Delhi on Monday, 8th December 2014.
With the launch of this book, we have been successful in bringing together outstanding scholars - Professor Shahid Amin, Department of History, University of Delhi; Professor Ashis Nandy, Honorary Senior Fellow, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi; and Dr Charu Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of History, University of Delhi, in a lively discussion on the perspectives of learning and teaching history, and the need to re-envision the past. The event was chaired by Professor Emerita Romila Thapar, Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, whose contribution to the understanding of ancient India has enriched and in many ways, shaped our idea of history.
A History of Modern India is the first international textbook produced by the India branch of the Press and within only three months of publication, has become a part of the syllabus of Pune and Gauhati universities in India.
